SHOE LOVE | See Inside the New DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse + Check Out the Dream Boots Our Blogger Bought

Clockwise from Top L: 1) The massive brand new DSW, just waiting for me to shop it. 2) Minimalist Nike kicks - a street style staple every woman needs 3) Oooh, or do I get the Adidas Superstars? 4) A Vaughan Mills marketing beauty scored these amazing merlot Sam Edelman pumps for under $30 in the clearance section. Whaaaat??? 5) Timberlands at $30 less than anywhere else I’ve seen 6) SO many VANS for guys and girls 7) Me in my new over-the-knee suede Naya boots 8) A DSW staffer in his new Fred Perry kicks 9) Hunter wellies in loads of pretty colours

When I heard that I’d been invited to shop Canada’s largest shoe store (I repeat: Canada’s LARGEST SHOE STORE), I cleared my calendar, hooked my kids up with a babysitter, and prepped myself. I can handle shoes. I’ve handled them my whole life. But the new 26,000 sq. ft. DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse at Vaughan Mills, loaded with shoes, boots and accessories, was beyond anything I’ve ever shopped. That’s 2,500 styles of brand name and designer shoes at up to 40% off suggested retail prices. And a blogger with next to no self control around shoes. I’m in so much trouble.
I head to the new DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse (did I mention it’s Canada’s largest?) bright and early on opening day, armed with a gift card and so ready to shop. I’ve strategized how I’ll spend my card and remind myself of the rules - no more sneakers (I own a dozen pairs already), and no stilettos (same). My mission is boots. Beautiful, buttery soft, fall boots. As I round the corner, the store comes into full, glorious view. As promised, it’s massive - like football field massive, except instead of football players, it’s filled with footwear. This is my kind of Superbowl.
I start in the heel department and am excited to see some of my favourite brands like Vince Camuto and Sam Edelman in the mix. While I don’t need more sneakers, I can’t help but notice some Adidas, Nike, New Balance and Converse that are begging me to bring them home. I give them a firm ‘no’ and carry on to my destination: boot heaven. Seriously, so many boots. I see Hunter wellies and Frye lace-ups, plus the Timberlands I’ve always wanted. I pick up a pair of the most perfect black Nine West ankle boots and ask one of the DSW staffers to put them aside for me since I know they’ll be my new fall favourites. But then I spy a row of super tall over-the-knee boots, which I’ve always wanted to buy but haven’t. This is my time. I try on 2 pairs but the 3rd time’s when I hit gold - pointy-toed, soft, suede Naya boots that fit like a dream. Thanks to a low stacked heel, they feel like I’m wearing running shoes but make me look like a total bae. Or that’s what another shopper tells me. Um, sold.
For men, the selection is sick. I’m talking VANS for days, Fred Perry and Lacoste kicks, plus aisle upon aisle of running shoes and dress shoes and cool boots, pretty much meaning guys will literally never have to shop anywhere else for shoes.
I head to the clearance section and see some Stan Smiths and Vince Camuto heels but I’ve reached my personal spending limit so leave them to be adopted by someone else. This time. After all, I’ve finally found my dream boots and can’t wait to get them home so I can start my fall outfit planning. #yay
